House from the Past – What were homes like a long time ago?
Supports QCA History units 1 and 2
Children have a tour comparing life today with life 200 years ago. Alternatively there is a different tour option exploring life of the servants ‘The Butler’s Day’. There is also opportunity to explore our classroom activities with old fashioned toys to play with, a ‘then & now’ activity, a scrap book to make and lots more artefacts to handle.

Mary Seacole – Why do we remember…
Supports QCA History unit 4 and Citizenship unit 5
Children get to explore our trunk of 19th century artefacts. These objects are used to tell Mary’s fascinating story. This is a totally interactive session, involving the class in role play activities, where they come to appreciate some of the difficulties Mary encountered as a Black woman making her way in a white dominated society.

Supports QCA History unit 4
Children can explore the lives of James Watt and Matthew Boulton. Practical activities are included in an extended tour of the house to discover more about the fascinating lives of these two men.

Material World – Rocks and Soils
Supports QCA Science units 3c & 3d
Children conduct hands on investigations with selections of rocks, fossils and minerals. They learn how rocks and fossils are formed and explore the wonder of nature’s minerals.

Flower Power – Life Cycles
Supports QCA Science unit 5b
Practical workshop; children learn about classification, learn about flower parts using our specially contructed giant flowers and make flower models to take home. Can be combined with our Plant Passport activity to investigate the plants in the Soho garden.

Fantastic Forces – Forces in action
Supports QCA Science unit 6e
A practical hands on workshop with lots of activities investigating a variety of forces including air resistance, water resistance and air pressure.
