The Holte Hotel is all that remains of Henry Quilter's late nineteenth century pleasure grounds - Aston Lower Grounds. This was intended as a place of entertainment. It had gardens, a boating lake, a menagerie of animals and an arena where magnificent spectacles were staged such as the erupting of Vesuvius and the Battle of Alexandria
