Teaching Sessions
for Birmingham Schools
Birmingham schools are taught
by the Schools Liaison teacher
Peter Ray. He will take
your class on an inspiring
journey based on one of
a number of key history
topics: Ancient Rome, Ancient
Egypt and Ancient Greece.

observing, handling and
investigating objects from
ancient Rome. (Suitable
for Key Stage 1 and 2)

at artefacts and
using them
to build up a picture of

- Uncovering
a story of Petros, an Ancient
Greek Athlete, exploring
the history behind
the
Olympic games then
handling a variety
of object from ancient
Greece. (Suitable
for Key Stage 1

- Human
History: Take
a closer look at the Birmingham
Museum
Human History Galleries
containing material from
Victorian times, the Nineteen
Fifties, Second World War
Birmingham and a wide range
of children's toys.
Teaching Sessions
for non-Birmingham Schools
Non-Birmingham schools
are taught by the NEW Schools
Support Officer.
The new Schools Support Officer
is pleased to offer
a
number of new sessions based
around object handling and
historical enquiry for Key
Stage one and two children.
Sessions are free of charge
and relate to different aspects
of the primary curriculum.
Some of the sessions available
are:
- Victorian
Birmingham: Children explore
what life might have been
like for rich and poor
people living in Victorian
Birmingham.
- The
Children’s
War: The session looks
at the effects of the war
on the everyday life of
children, with particular
focus on Birmingham.
- Ancient
Egypt: This is
an evidence based handling
session during which all
children will get the chance
to explore genuine Egyptian
artefacts.
- Exploring
Myths in Art: This
session combines History,
Art, English and Drama
to produce an enthralling
journey through the galleries
looking at myths in art.
