What's On - events, activities and toursback

There are many activities and events at our community museums during the weekends and holidays, all of which are free unless stated otherwise, please see below for more details. Click on a museum site to jump to that section:

Aston Hall – August Events
Wednesday 11th August
1.30, 2.30 & 3.30pm. Handling Session – drop-in sessions to handle historic
sessions objects, and find out about life in the past. Places are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
   
Wednesday 18th August
1.30 – 3.30pm Children’s Crafts – suitable for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

1.30 – 3.30pm Children’s Crafts – suitable for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Blakesley Hall – August Events

Sunday 8th August
12pm – 4pm Meet William Shakespeare – fun and facts as ‘the bard’ pays a visit to Blakesley Hall.
   
Tuesday 10th August
1.30 – 3.30pm Words on Wheels – storytelling on board the Words on Wheels bus.
   
Thursday 12th August
1.30 – 3.30pm Drop-in Family Craft Activity – free ‘make and take’ craft activity. Please remember that children must be accompanied at all times.
   
Tuesday 17th August
12.00 – 4.00pm Falconry Fun – come along and meet staff from the Hagley Falconry Centre, and if you’re lucky have a go at flying a raptor!
   
Thursday 19th August
1.30 – 3.30pm Drop-in Family Craft Activity – free ‘make and take’ craft activity. Please remember that children must be accompanied at all times.
   
Sunday 22nd August
2.00pm Visit to St. Edburgha’s Church, Yardley – a 10 min walk from Blakesley Hall. This guided tour will take about one and a half hours.
   
Tuesday 24th August
1.30 – 3.30pm Games Day – have a go at a selection of garden games including giant connect four and quoits.
   
Thursday 26th August
1.30 – 3.30pm Drop-in Family Craft Activity – free ‘make and take’ craft activity. Please remember that children must be accompanied at all times.

Museum Collections Centre – August Events

OPEN DAY
Free donkey rides, Falconry displays, children's trails and as ever the historic bus service running every half hour from Edmund St in the city centre.

Museum of the Jewellery Quarter – August Events
Saturday 7th August

1pm – 3pm

 

 

Beads and Threads – make your own necklace or bracelet using beads with artist Julie Jones. Suitable for age 5 and over. Booking is essential – £2.50 per person.
   
Thursday 12th August
1.00 – 3.00pm Silversmith for a Day – a chance to learn the skills and
techniques of a silversmith with designer maker Shona Marsh. Make and finish your own metal dish out of copper. Suitable for age 11 and over. Booking is essential – £2.50 per person.
   
Saturday 14th August
1.00 – 3.00pm Design Space Exhibition – jeweller demonstration in the gallery.
   
Thursday 19th August
1.00 – 3.00pm Decorative Dream-Catchers – using different types of beads, wire and materials to create your own dream-catcher with designer maker Louise Chesshire. Suitable for age 5 and over. Booking is essential – £2.50 per person.
   
Saturday 21st August
1.00 – 3.00pm Design Space Exhibition – jeweller demonstration in the gallery.
   
Thursday 26th August
1.00 – 3.00pm Star Spangled Bangles – workshop with designer maker Lisa Watson producing your own colourful anodised aluminium bangle. Suitable for age 8 and over. Booking is essential – £2.50 per person.
   
Saturday 28th August
1.00 – 3.00pm Design Space Exhibition – jeweller demonstration in the gallery.
