Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery has two new art galleries that have recently opened, these are 'How Art is Made’ and ‘In Touch’ interactive galleries.

The Ancient galleryGallery Closures
Essential roof works to the Great Charles Street side of the museum will necessitate the closures of some galleries throughout the year. These include the:
  • Greek, Roman & Ancient Near East Gallery (32),
  • World Cultures and Vibes Gallery (33),
  • Egyptian Gallery (34),
  • Birmingham Archaeology Gallery (35),
  • Ways of Seeing Gallery (36)
  • Wonderwall Gallery (37).

Other galleries – including those featuring our world-class art collections and Victorian and WW2 history displays – will remain unaffected.

To compensate for the loss of the Egyptian gallery, a new trail is being developed linking together small artefact displays – some newly-created - related to the Egyptian theme at various points around the museum. Our popular taught sessions will continue as before and where necessary adjustments will be made to their content in order to minimise the effect of the gallery closures. For example, classes requesting mask sessions will be unable to view the collection of mask in the ethnographic galleries, but will still be able to participate in mask-making sessions.
