Plaster was moulded or shaped to make the designs for the ceiling.

  • Plaster was dug out of the ground. The best plaster comes from near Paris - it is called plaster of Paris.

  • The white powder was mixed with horse hair and water. The horse hair made it strong.

  • It was poured into wooden or metal moulds or shapes.

  • When the plaster had gone hard it was turned out.

  • The patterns were stuck to the ceiling with more wet plaster.
