Animals

Animals were thought to have been created for man's sake.

Domestic animals were for eating and working.

Wild animals were for hunting. After all, it said in the Christian Bible 'Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you'! (Genesis XI).

The Normans ate deer, wild boars and rabbits.

Hunting deer and wild boar was considered the sport of kings.

There were severe punishments for those caught poaching in the Royal Forests.

The Norman baron in this picture is out hawking . He is using hawks and other birds of prey to catch a variety of different birds - blackbirds, thrushes pigeons -most of which he ate for his dinner.
