The grey squirrel opposite is a native of North America. They were brought to Britain in Victorian times to be shown as caged animals in zoos. Some escaped!

For a long time it was thought that they fought the British red squirrel and took its food which led to red squirrels becoming very rare. But it now seems that humans were destroying the natural habitats (homes and feeding grounds) of red squirrels, and that the grey squirrels could adapt better to a changing environment.

How is the red squirrel different to the grey apart from colour?
