Medieval Events Attending a tournament was an exciting day out in Medieval times! Knights took part in a joust. They dressed in full armour, charged towards each other on powerful horses and and tried to knock each other to the ground with the long lances they each carried. They were professional fighting men but they displayed their skills for entertainment and prestige. The knight was a hero in the medieval world. He was glorified in song and story, and blessed by the Church. Society saw him as representing that noble code of conduct - chivalry. Chivalry demanded that a knight must defend the Christian faith and the king, and also the weak and oppressed. It often meant fighting on behalf of a lady, therefore chivalry had a strong romantic element! Whose coat of arms do you think this knight sporting on his shield and horse cloth?
