The building industry enjoyed a huge boom after the Second World War. Builders have continued to prosper, with demands for more hygienic factories, bigger offices, and more and better homes. Urban regeneration programmes, such as those that have taken place in Birmingham, have breathed life into run down inner city areas, bringing jobs and new industries.
