Norman The blacksmith played a vital role in village life for most of the next 900 years! He made metal parts for plough, rims for wheels and hand tools for farming. He forged armour and weapons for war. The tools of his trade changed very little over the centuries. The iron he used came from from furnace sites set in the depths of forests. The same woods provided charcoal for him to use on his fire. Industry was small scale and found in the heart of the country. What is happening in the picture? Click the picture for an answer. |
