Tudor Medicine Herbs had been used as cures since ancient times. It was part of the education of a young Tudor girl to learn how to mix potions, or 'simples' as they were called. Tudor houses of any size would have a well laid out 'knot' garden (named after its shape), complemented by a practical and well stocked herb garden. Close to the kitchen would be the 'still room'. Here the industrious housewife concocted her remedies. There is great interest in old herbal remedies. Clearly some of them worked! Can you name the herbs in the picture? Do you know what they are for? Click the picture for answers. |
