Blakesley Hall |
|
Welcome to Blakesley Hall, built, in 1590 for Richard Smalbroke, Birmingham merchant and gentleman farmer. The Hall is a timber-framed building, with a 17th century brick kitchen extension.
The house is furnished using an inventory taken in the 17th century and reflects the lifestyle of a wealthy family of the late Tudor and Stuart period of English history.
A Lottery grant was awarded to extend the
facilities of this site. Improvements include an interpretative centre, cafe,
toilets, coach parking and a refurbished classroom. Onsite security has also
been improved. The building opened again to the public in May 2002
Open to Birmingham schools throughout the year, a wide variety of cross curricular activities and study sessions are available to Birmingham schoolchildren at all Key Stages. This includes work involving history, drama, maths and technology.
