This is a gas mask worn by people who had special war duties, like servicemen or women, air raid wardens or telephone operators. Gas masks were also known as respirators. |
| This is a ration book. During the war some types of food, like eggs, butter and meat were in short supply. You had to have the right amount of coupons as well as money to buy these foods, and you could only have a set amount of the rationed foods. Sweets were rationed! |

The government sent all kinds of advice to help people. Here are some booklets with advice on how to cope in a gas attack! Luckily there never were any. The red document is a wartime driving licence. Petrol was rationed but people like doctors were given extra. |
