Thomas Holte was
born about 1571.
He was brought up at the family home, Duddeston
Hall.
Sir Thomas was well
educated. He attended Oxford University
and was then sent to London to pick up
some knowledge of the law at the Inns
of Court.
He was described by his great
grandson (Sir Charles Holte) as a man 'well read
in most parts of learning, and versed in several languages'.
Thomas Holte's father died when Thomas was
only 21.
Thomas inherited large
amounts of land, the family homes at Duddeston and
in London and he did a lot himself to
further the family fortunes.
