On September 6th, 1879, a train steamed in to New Street Station, Birmingham. After it had steamed out again, on its way north, the station Superintendent, Mr. Roberts, noticed some luggage left on the platform. It was placed in the Lost Luggage Department until someone came to claim it. Nobody came! A few weeks later, Mr. Roberts decided to open it and find out as much as he could so that the owner might be traced. You are going to help him in his detective work!
Does the luggage belong to a man or a woman?
What sort of person is the owner - rich, poor, married, single, educated .......?
What sort of interests does the owner have?
Where is the owner from - is there an address?
Are there any clues as to where the owner is going?
Does the owner work for a living?
Why is the owner visiting Birmingham?
Where is the owner of the luggage and why has the owner left it at the station?
Your task is to try and answer these questions - and any others you may think of - using the evidence of the contents of the luggage!
