Conservation of brick.......

The brick walls of Aston Hall are in good condition but very dirty because of its closeness to industrial Birmingham. Dirt in the air (pollution) has dropped on the house.

An attempt to clean a trial patch of blackened brickwork with a power hose proved a sad mistake - it damaged the surface of the bricks. Sometimes things are best looked after by not doing anything!
