Conservation of stone......

Millstones are fairly easy to look after because they are so hard, but they do wear down in time on the grinding faces.

This stone has been raised to show how the grooves on the grinding faces need to be sharpened in order to work efficiently.

This job was done every few months by lifting and turning over the stone with a jack and working on it with a special tool called a bill.
