Computed Tomography (CT) scanning involves taking thousands of X-rays at different angles. When looked at on a computer, the scans produce ‘slices’ through the body. Each scan takes a few minutes to perform and produces hundreds of detailed images.
CT scanning does not cause any damage to the mummies and means that we do not need to unwrap the mummies to look inside.
