Meanders
Meanders are curves in a stream (or river). Where a stream flows across a flood plain there may be lots of meanders. This picture shows the Bourn Brook as it meanders across the flood plain at Woodgate Valley. It has just been raining, so the water level is quite high. |

Erosion wears away the banks on the outside of a meander bend. Deposition can form beaches on the inside of meander bends. Can you see where there has been erosion and deposition on this picture of a meander? Over long periods of time the shape of these meanders will change, due to erosion and deposition. |
